First Podcast and Script Work

An update to let you know on how we've been getting on with some script work and about the first podcast.

Podcast Update

We put our first podcast up and you can listen or subscribe to it from the podcast link above. We've decided that the podcasts are going to be a mix of exactly what we're doing, advice for you guys and general discussions about film making. The basic premise for the show is a show about film making by people who don't know how to make films. We'll be doing the podcast show about once a week. The vidcasts will probably be less than once a month and the news blog we'll try and update a couple of times a week.

In the first podcast episode we talk about how the project came about, the money spent so far, the need for drive if you want to make a film, the software used so far, bioshock, how games are becoming art and various format wars.

The podcast went quite well, though probably not as well as the first vidcast. WE had some technical issues with our sound setup that we're trying to resolve. As a consequence, the sound quality is not quite professional level, but still perfectly adequate to listen to. Next week we should have those problems sorted.

Script Work and Other Happenings

Before we get into script work, we thought we should let you know that the vidcast and podcast section now allow you to listen within the web page, download directly, subscribe to a podcast/vidcast feed and to directly add it to your iTunes podcast subscriptions. If anyone thinks we could do more, just add a comment with your suggestion in the discussion section below.

Since our last update we have tried to tweak some stuff in the website to make it a little more polished (we were having some layout problems) but the rest of our time has been spent working on some script issues.

Although the story for the film was completed a while ago, we wrote it as a narrative and we are currently in the process of adapting it for the screen. This essentially involves writing a script and deciding how certain shots will be achieved. Most of what we have been doing has been going through the narrative and picking out anything that would not translate directly into film and figuring out how to get the message across. It has not been easy as the story is fairly complicated and introspective. Our main character has a lot of thoughts in the narrative version and we are trying to tease those out of the internal and have them shown someone on film. The good news is that we have solved most of the issues we're having and we have started work on the script proper.

We have already written a couple of scenes and we are very pleased with our progress. We are hoping that we will have the script done in the next two weeks, at which point we will discuss our thoughts on script writing and the approach that we have taken with story and character development and how we expect that to affect production.

Please feel free to add your comments below if you have anything fun to say or want to get in touch with us. There is loads more information and fun stuff in the videos and podcasts, so do take a look at them.

All the best,

John and Scott
